Mountain gorilla trekking

Mountain gorilla trekking is the most primate lovers’ bucket list activity. Trekking and meeting face to face with the endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat is an experience to cherish. Gorilla treks involve waking up by 6:00 am and transferring to Kinigi Park Headquarters by 7:00 am with gorilla permit, trekking gear, and packed Lunch at hand for briefing. Treks are conducted on one of the 10 habituated gorilla families allowing a maximum of 8 persons aged 15 years and above as well as holding a valid permit valued at $1500.

Chimpanzee trekking

When you talk of chimpanzee trekking, Rwanda’s Nyungwe Forest National Park should flash right in front of your eyes. Any of the two habituated chimpanzee communities will make your visit go gaga but watching them exhibit human-like characters will make you fall permanently in love with them.

Mountain gorilla trekking and Habituation Experience. 

Mountain gorilla trekking in Uganda is unique because not only do you have two fantastic places to trek gorillas but also a chance to watch the giant apes undergoing habituation. With a permit costing $700, persons of 15 years plus have one hour with any of the 21 habituated gorilla families in these two places, or for $1500 (gorilla permit), there is a chance to spend four hours with a semi-habituated gorilla family. For a less challenging trek, arrive during the dry season that lasts from June to September as well as December to early February.

Kingdom palace tour

Also known as Karuzika palace, Kingdom Palace is situated at Karuzika Hill overlooks the Fort Portal town. The palace is one of those scenic buildings which lend a 360-degree panoramic view of the entire town of Fort portal. The Tooro palace is still home to the current King Tooro, Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV who has been the cultural leader of the Toro kingdom since 1995.

Amabere Ganyina’mwiru

Situated 7 km from Fort Portal, Amabere Ganyina’mwiru is a famous tourist spot that has attracted tourists from all walks of life. These are basically limestone rocks that are known as stalagmites and stalactites and are a great scenic feature in the region. Visit these caves that expose you to the Amabere Ga Nyina Mwiru waterfalls and the surrounding areas.

Kibale Forest National Park

The National park is home to more than 70 mammal species and 217 bird species. The site protects the highest parts of the mountain range and lends a stunning view of the entire region. You can choose to go on world-class hiking and mountaineering that will boost your adrenaline rush.

Semuliki National Park

Famous for the Sempaya hot springs, Semuliki National Park is one of the famous tourist attractions in Uganda making it a must-visit place for all the tourists. The national park is home to 53 mammal species and 442 bird species, many of which are found in the Democratic Republic of Congo. A mecca for bird watchers, a park is a must-visit place.

Best Time to ​Discover Fort Portal

The best time to visit Fort Portal is the whole year-round. However, from the month of January and February, July and December. The temperature remains warm and pleasant during this time and attracts tourists during these months. The highest temperature that has been recorded is 33 degrees in February and 25 degrees in May that has been the lowest.​
